Background
We found that many boys age 5 to 10 years are recently interested in Robot technology and they can do it as playing conventional LEGO bricks, but many parents have no skill and experience. We introduce and use LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 home edition in this web because
- LEGO MINDSTORMS is a completed set and have many good tools such as Lab View programming and LEGO Digital Designer which are very easy to use. It is a toy which can play for any age. 5 year kids may build following the build instruction. 10 year kids may learn to program and design. University student may implement difficult logic, mathematics, and high level programming.
- EV3 is the next generation of NXT and have tools such as Remote Control and Commander App for mobile phone which help kids to easily play their built robot as a toy such as remote control car. They are very good tools for parents who do not have experience. Although currently there are build instructions and programs for NXT more than EV3, we can expect to have more and more for EV3 in the future.
- Home edition is enough and easy to use for parents who have no experience. There are build instructions and programs for 5 basic and 12 additional robots from LEGO.
- There are many basic books based on EV3 home edition, which parents can use it as a guide line. These books also have e-book revision which is easy to get and use.
